Frequently asked questions.
Do you still offer personal training?
Yes, I still provide personalized 1-on-1 training—but I now focus exclusively on two core programs: boxing and strength training. So, if you’re looking to commit to a structured boxing or weightlifting program, I’m your trainer. You can review both programs in details here.
What should I bring to my boxing lesson?
For your boxing sessions, you’ll need:
Boxing Gloves (12-14oz recommended)
Hand Wraps
Water/Refillable Water Bottle and comfortable workout attire
When are boxing lessons available?
While I’m available on both weekdays and weekends, my preferred training times are on weekends between 9am and 3pm, when I have the most availability and flexibility.
Weekend Training: Offers more flexibility and choice, with multiple time slots open for both morning and early afternoon sessions.
Weekday Training: I currently have very limited availability—two morning slots (before 10am) and two evening slots (after 6pm). Please note that weekday sessions may fill up quickly due to limited availability.
Do I need a gym membership?
No membership is required! I’ll add you to my guest list for each session—just provide your first and last name and sign a waiver upon arrival. While non-members can access the gym’s amenities during our training sessions, a membership is needed for independent access.
Why not train at a traditional boxing gym?
Training at LA Fitness offers several unique benefits that traditional boxing gyms often don’t:
Lower Training Costs: Traditional boxing gyms or MMA facilities typically charge high fees for trainers to use their spaces. By training at LA Fitness, I can provide lower rates, making boxing more accessible.
Access to Amenities: Both LA Fitness locations have heavy bags for training, plus amenities like a sauna, weightlifting equipment, and a pool—enhancing your post-workout experience and recovery.
Trans/Queerphobia and Misogyny: Traditional boxing gyms can be hypermasculine spaces, sometimes fostering transphobia, queerphobia, and misogyny.
Do you offer at-home training?
Yes! I offer at-home training with my boxing instruction program, so you can train comfortably in your own space. At-home training includes all essential equipment (boxing gloves, pads, etc), so there’s no need to invest in extra gear. We’ll focus on the same techniques, drills, and strength-building exercises as in the gym, adapted to your home environment. For more details, reach out, and I’ll help get you set up.
Do you offer meal planning and tracking support?
While meal planning isn’t part of my standard training packages, I do offer it as an add-on for clients wanting nutrition support. I can guide you in tracking your intake, balancing macros, and creating a sustainable meal structure that aligns with your goals, whether you’re building muscle or looking to improve endurance. If you’re interested in adding meal planning to your training, let’s talk about how I can help.
Is Boxing Really Self-Defense?
Yes, boxing can absolutely be a form of self-defense. While it’s often thought of as a sport, boxing builds essential self-defense skills like striking power, defensive reflexes, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. Learning how to throw effective punches, block, slip, and react quickly to an opponent’s moves can be highly effective if you need to protect yourself. Boxing teaches controlled movements, awareness, and the confidence to respond in real-world situations—skills that are critical in any self-defense scenario.
Cardio Boxing vs. Skill-Focused Boxing Instruction
Many people are familiar with cardio boxing classes designed to make you sweat, where the focus is primarily on burning calories, and less attention is given to form, technique, or skill development. My program is focused on building real boxing skills, enhancing punching power, striking precision, and accuracy through focused pad work drills. You’ll also learn advanced footwork, pivots, shifts, and practical defensive techniques that go beyond what’s possible on a heavy bag alone.
